Tree fallen on 7th Street in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- People in Louisville can drop off storm tree debris for free at several sites around the city.

Louisville Metro Department of Public Works is providing the free service for Jefferson County residents only. People will be asked to show their driver's license and their license plate will be document, according to a news release.

All sites will be open Monday through Friday from 2 to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The sites will be closed Sundays. Those sites include:

  • Shawnee Park - 4501 West Broadway
  • Waste Reduction Center - 636 Meriwether Avenue
  • Public Works Yard - 595 N. Hubbards Lane
  • E.P. Tom Sawyer Park - enter from Tom Sawyer Drive near the softball fields
  • Charlie Vettiner Park - enter from Mary Dell Road
  • Fern Creek Park - 8703 Ferndale Road
  • Near Fairdale Elementary - 10618 West Manslick Road
  • Public Works Yard - 10500 Lower River Road, enter from Bethany Lane

According to a news release, contractors and businesses who are hauling debris can use the Waste Reduction Center for the usual fee. 

The storm that tore through Kentucky on Sunday morning left damage from high winds. One tornado was confirmed by the National Weather Service in Meade County. 

At least five people died as a result of the storms in Kentucky. The deaths happened in Jefferson, Hardin, Hopkins, Mercer, and Caldwell Counties.
