LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) — A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Louisville’s California neighborhood.
Louisville Metro Police said officers responded just before 10 p.m. Feb. 12 to a shooting in the 1600 block of Garland Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a man unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 38-year-old Jashaun Brown.
Police said in an update Wednesday that Darryl Goodwin was charged in connection with the homicide. He is facing charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Goodwin is being held at the Kentucky State Reformatory on unrelated charges.
He was previously arrested in April in connection with a shooting in March in the Park DuValle neighborhood.
A 17-year-old boy and a man were both shot in the 1500 block of South 30th Street. They were taken to UofL Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
According to court documents, Goodwin was one of the victims in the March shooting.
Police said they found a stolen gun near the scene, and video footage allegedly showed Goodwin holding it. Goodwin was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and receiving stolen property (firearm).
Goodwin was also one of four juveniles who escaped from the Mayfield Youth Detention Center in 2024, according to court documents. Kentucky State Police said he was found a few hours later.
Goodwin was sentenced Feb. 11, 2025, as an adult to four years in prison on charges of fleeing or evading police and criminal mischief. According to court documents, he was granted parole on Dec. 1, 2025, in Jefferson County.
