LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A temporary exhibit showcasing the Savannah Bananas opened this week at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory.
The Savannah Bananas will take on the Party Animals from Aug. 1-3 at Louisville Slugger Field in downtown Louisville. Coinciding with the team's visit to Louisville, the museum has an array of memorabilia for both teams.
The barnstorming baseball team plays their own version of baseball called Banana Ball. It's described as a "fast-paced, action-packed style of baseball with rules that include no bunting, a two-hour time limit, fans catching foul balls for outs, batters stealing first base and a one-on-one showdown at the end of a game that is tied."
According to a news release Wednesday, the museum gives people a chance to see gloves, knee guards and jerseys from the Savannah Bananas. It's also offering a selection of limited-edition T-shirts to commemorate the Louisville series. Shirts are now available in the Museum Store.
"We are thrilled to host the Savannah Bananas exhibit and welcome their fans to the museum," Deana Lockman, executive director of Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, said in a news release. "We can't wait to see the energy and excitement their fans will bring to the museum."
The museum extended its hours Aug. 2-3 to stay open until 6 p.m.
The team's roster includes former MLB stars and celebrity guests. When they're not touring, they play home games at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Georgia. Officials said their games have been sold out for eight-straight years.
