LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Zoo celebrated Earth Day on Sunday.
Guests of the zoo on Trevilian Way received $5 off general admission and free parking during the Earth Day Festival. The Earth Day Festival serves as the centerpiece of "Party for the Planet: A Month-Long Celebration of the Earth" throughout April.
"I just feel like most people don't recycle or throw stuff out," said Avery Roy, a Holy Cross student. "I have never really recycled so it's important to tell people to recycle.
The day will feature the four winners from Kids in Action. Students were encouraged to design conversation projects for the benefit of their own community.
The winning projects include:
- Eco-friendly seed bomb for marigolds from the preschool class at Georgia Chaffee Tapp School
- Mobile recycle bin from Holy Cross High School seniors Hunter Drake, Wade Kramer, and Avery Roy
- Bug hotel from 3rd grade homeschool student Rachel Neel
- “Saving Salamanders” stream cleanup and salamander monitoring project from 4-year-old Primrose School preschooler Elisa Clark
Guests could also talk to eco-theme vendors like Beyond Plastics Louisville, Idlewild Butterfly Farm and the Louisville Nature Center.
