LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A teenage girl is in the hospital after being critically injured after a car crash on the University of Louisville campus Saturday.

About 5:20 p.m., Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a single car crash in the 2000 block of South 3rd Street, near Unity Place on the UofL campus, department spokesperson Aaron Ellis said.

Ellis said a car was traveling southbound on South Third Street when the car started having mechanical issues. For unknown reasons, Ellis said the driver and passenger in the car jumped out of the moving car. The passenger somehow was pinned between the car and a tree when the car stopped moving.

The passenger, a teenage girl, was transported to UofL Hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries, Ellis said. The driver had only minor injuries, and was not taken to the hospital.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
