LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Zoo announced Monday it welcomed a new western lowland gorilla to its family.
Patty, 11, comes to Louisville from the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, where she was born. The zoo said she'll eventually be housed with Casey, 42, Paki, 35, Kweli, 40 and Kindi, 8. She comes with breeding recommendations from the Association of Zoos and Aquariusms Species Survival Plan, the zoo said, and will eventually be paired with Casey.
"Welcoming Patty to the Louisville Zoo adds an exciting new element to Gorilla Forest," Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney said in a news release Monday. "Welcoming a relatively young, unrelated female gorilla to our Zoo is quite an accomplishment and we credit her addition to the hard work of our Animal Care Team. We are eager to witness her growth, and hopefully see her successfully become a mom with male gorilla Casey soon."
The zoo said Patty's acclimation is going smoothly.
