LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man is in critical condition after falling off a bridge into a creek in east Louisville.
Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS responded a little before 8:30 Tuesday night to the 11000 block of Westport Road on a report that a man had fallen from a bridge behind the Speedway gas station, according department spokesperson Sal Melendez in a statement. The original call to 911 was by a store employee.
Crews found an unresponsive man in his 20s about 15-20 feet down from the road in about 3-4 inches of water, Melendez said. A bystander was performing CPR on the man until first responders arrived and took over.
Crews "immediately stabilized" the man on a backboard and moved him to the shoreline, Melendez said. While the man was being cared for, fire crews used chainsaws to carve a path out of the dense vegetation. The man was lifted up using a Stokes basket.
The man was transported to University of Louisville Hospital and is in critical, but stable condition Melendez said.
