MULDRAUGH, Ky. (WDRB) — Police in Meade County said officers conducting a traffic stop Wednesday seized a methamphetamine commonly packaged and flavored to appeal to young people.

The form of meth — commonly called Meth Quick or Strawberry Quick, according to the Muldraugh Police Department — has likely circulated in the area for a while, though this is the first police seizure.

"This drug is especially concerning because it is often packaged or flavored in ways that can appeal to younger individuals," police said in a Facebook post. "We are working with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to stay ahead of this threat and protect our community—especially our children and young adults."

Police said this type of meth can look and sometime even smell like candy.

"This deceptive, highly addictive drug is one of many evolving forms of crystal meth (methamphetamine), a powerful stimulant that continues to ravage communities across the U.S., particularly among young adults and young people exposed to early drug use," police said.

Emily Bruner, who lives in Muldraugh, said it's no secret the area is "known" for drugs. Police said meth, heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and more are trafficked up and down Dixie Highway. Officers make 15-25 traffic stops per day, and police said finding meth during those stops is pretty common.

"If they're finding (meth) here, it's got to be going to other places, unfortunately," Bruner said.

A spokesperson for the Muldraugh Police Department said the pink meth came from Louisville. Representatives from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said drug traffickers sometimes use coloring to personalize and brand the drugs they sell.

"It's sad," Bruner said. "I yearn for a better day."
