LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The first federal inmate in 16 years was scheduled to be executed at a federal prison in Indiana, but the Supreme Court blocked the Trump Administration's original plan.
Daniel Lee was convicted of killing a family of three in Arkansas. Lee is one of five death row inmates Attorney General Bill Barr announced are set to be put to death. The execution was scheduled to happen in Terre Haute, Indiana, but three days before, the high court ruled to uphold a lower court stay.
The lethal injection substance is currently the center of the legal battle. Barr approved a new single injection to replace the combination of three chemicals.
"The decision is solely at this point how the execution is going to take place," former federal prosecutor Jeff Cramer said.
The Supreme Court said it thinks the lower court can make a decision on this case in about 60 days.Â
