LOUISIVLLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nelson County authorities are searching for a man that allegedly tried to kill a woman

Daniel Mendez is wanted for attempted murder and attempted strangulation. Nelson County Sheriff's deputies said Mendez stabbed a woman multiple times with a screwdriver.

Mendez has been seen in Nelson and Washington counties.

"He's here on a work Visa and he is on the run," said Ramon Pineiroa, Nelson County Sheriff. "He's traveled through the woods, the wood lines multiple miles and he's still on the loose."

The suspect was captured on a trail camera in Washington County. Mendez is 5-foot-5 Hispanic male.

He's wanted after an incident with a woman that began last Wednesday.

"She returned to the home on Thursday and that's when he attacked her and stabbed her multiple times in the chest and in the head," Pineiroa said. "The way the stab wounds were, it appeared like a screwdriver."

The victim survived the injuries.

Police have received tips that Mendez was picking up money from an employer in Nelson County on Monday. Mendez could face additional charges pending the investigation.

If you have any information about Mendez that could help police, call Nelson County Dispatch at 502-348-3211.

"Wherever he’s at... call and turn him in," Pineiroa said.
