LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Nearly three years after a Kentucky State Police trooper assaulted a man, the agency released body camera footage of the incident.

It happened July 28, 2023, in Carroll County. According to KSP, former trooper Hayden Killborne was part of a chase involving a suspect considered armed and dangerous, accused of driving a stolen vehicle. The chase went through four counties.

The chase stretched across four counties before ending when troopers used a tire deflation device to stop the vehicle.

As the suspect fled on foot, officers can be heard shouting commands.

Body camera video shows troopers repeatedly ordering the suspect to show his hands and get on the ground.

"Show me your hands! I will kill you. Show me your hands. You are dead when I catch you. Show me your hands now," the officer can be heard yelling.

When troopers caught up with the suspect, they can be heard repeatedly telling the suspect to show his hands.

"Give me your hands. Show me your hands, show me your hands. Put your hands behind your back. I will kill you," the trooper said.

Court documents said that after the suspect was taken into custody, he suffered injuries including facial bruising, broken teeth and cuts requiring stitches.

Five days after the incident, KSP moved to fire Killborne. But he appealed, and instead was given a six-month suspension without pay. During that time, KSP opened a criminal investigation.

Killborne was arrested and pleaded guilty to charges of assault and terroristic threatening. He resigned in January this year.

KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. said Killborne's actions were "unacceptable" and "out of line."

"This trooper violated the sacred duty of policing," Burnett said.
