LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Thousands of new places for students to live could soon be available near the University of Kentucky.
Lexington officials said about 5,000 new student housing units have been approved near the UK campus over the next year.
One proposed development would cover 15 properties near the university and could affect several businesses in the area.
Some residents are raising concerns about how much room will remain for future projects around campus.
Officials said the developments could also help address Lexington's broader housing shortage by adding more available units.
The plans come as UK could see record enrollment this year, which could increase demand for housing near campus.
