LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local skate park is going green thanks to TreesLouisville.
Volunteers planted 26 trees at the David Armstrong Extreme Park in Butchertown on Thursday. The trees will provide a refuge from the heat for skaters in the warmer months.
They will also purify the air and buffer noise. Careful planning also went into choosing the right species of trees so they don't interfere with the skater experiences at the park.
TreesLouisville is a nonprofit working to expand Louisville's tree canopy.
"This area especially is around 15 % as you head closer to downtown it gets even worse so Louisville has had a dwindling tree canopy in the past that we're trying to improve," Morgan Grubbs, with Trees Louisville, said.
The project was made possible thanks to a grant from Collins Aerospace.
