LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Check those tickets! The numbers have been drawn for Monday night's $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot.

The numbers are: 12-26-27-43-47-5 with a Power Play of 2X.

The $1.04 billion jackpot is for a sole winner who takes an annuity, paid annually over 30 years. Winners nearly always pick the cash option. For Monday night’s drawing that would be an estimated $478.2 million.

Those winnings would be subject to federal taxes, and many states also tax lottery winnings.

The prize is the world’s ninth-largest lottery prize behind earlier drawings of Powerball and Mega Millions, the other nearly nationwide lottery game.

The prize on the line Monday night has grown so massive because there have been 32 consecutive drawings since someone won the jackpot. Powerball's terrible odds of 1 in 292.2 million are designed to generate big jackpots, with prizes becoming ever larger as they repeatedly roll over when no one wins.

In most states, a Powerball ticket costs $2 and players can select their own numbers or leave that task to a computer.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
