LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Murder, robbery and assault - Metro Police say those crimes were committed by some of the city's most violent fugitives. But now some of them are off the streets thanks to the department's fugitive squad.
"They go after the armed robbers, they go after the murderers," says Lt. Kit Steimle, Commander of LMPD's Viper Unit and fugitive squad. "Just in the past five days alone, our fugitive squad has arrested two gentlemen for attempted murders and robbery (and) one murder."
The suspects include Latray Quisenberry. "He was involved in an attempted murder where he shot a gentlemen in Shively the previous week," says Steimle.
The other dangerous men now off the street are: Mark Hambric, who police say fought with a store clerk after a snatch and grab; Dujuan Stokes, charged with five counts of kidnapping and armed robbery; Deveron Shively (Steimle says "he was wanted for a violent shooting out in the third division, a female was shot in the face"); and Kenneth Nelson.
As Steimle explains, "These offenders are the most violent in the city and they need to be taken off the street as soon as possible and our fugitive squad is fantastic at finding people."
And Metro Police say this is a joint effort so they've had help from several other police agencies.
"We work with HIP, we work with sheriff's department, all the different probation and parole and the U-S marshals," Steimle says.
Steimle says the unit has been on the street for more than a year and is systematically taking down bad guys.
"The fugitive squad, monthly, pulls in the worst of the worst fugitives," Steimle says.
The fugitive squad also took several illegal weapons out of the hands of those suspects and off the streets.
