LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A person was hurt in an officer-involved shooting after running away from police in downtown Louisville.
During a news conference early Sunday morning, Louisville Metro Police Assistant Chief Brian Kuriger said officers responded to a report of a break-in at 12:03 a.m. at 5th and York streets.
Kuriger said two suspects tried to run away from police. One was immediately taken into custody, but the other continued to run.
Kuriger said officers saw the suspect had a gun and ordered them multiple times to drop it. One officer fired multiple times, hitting the suspect.
They were taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Kuriger said. The suspect's gun was recovered from the scene.
"The suspect was an armed individual who was in the act of burglarizing residences," Kuriger said.
According the LMPD's Critical Incident Timeline, the name of the officer involved in the shooting will be released within 72 hours, and police body camera video will be released within 10 business days.
