LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A police pursuit in southern Indiana ended in a vehicle fire Monday night, closing all southbound lanes of the Gene Snyder at Interstate 71 in Jefferson County for at least an hour.

Flames and smoke could be seen coming from the vehicle after 10 p.m. on TRIMARC's traffic cameras.

According to Jeffersonville Police Maj. Isaac Parker, the pursuit began after officers attempted to stop a driver in Jeffersonville wanted on multiple felony warrants in Indiana.

The suspect fled. Jeffersonville officers and deputies with the Clark County Sheriff's Office deployed stop sticks three separate times, trying to stop the vehicle. But the suspect continued into Louisville, crashing on the Gene Snyder at the I-71 exit.Ā

The suspect fled the vehicle, but was caught by a Jeffersonville Police K-9. The suspect was transported to a local hospital to be treated for dog bites, Parker said.

All southbound lanes of the Gene Snyder were closed approaching the I-71 exit for about an hour while the scene was cleared. The lanes reopened just after 11:15 p.m. Monday.
