LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The mother of Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg has died. 

Hours after Greenberg delivered his second State of the City speech, his office released a statement that said Ruth Greenberg died on Thursday after a brief illness. She was 78.  

"She was an incredible mother, grandmother and wife who will be greatly missed. The mayor and his family are grateful to the health care team that provided Ruth care, and they would like to thank everyone who has reached out to offer condolences and support." 

On his social media page, Greenberg said he received the news of his mother's passing, as he left the State of the City. 

"She was an amazing person who made a positive impact on so many people’s lives. My family and I want to thank everyone for their support during this time as we say goodbye to an incredible mother, grandmother, wife and person.

Life is too short. Let’s all live every day to the fullest."

No additional details were released.
