CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- A candidate for office in southern Indiana died on Election Day.

The Town of Clarksville announced Tuesday evening that former District 3 Town Councilman and current At-Large candidate David “Red” Worrall died.

Worrall was greeting voters outside the polling station of Clarksville’s Renaissance Academy when he collapsed, according to the release. Worrall died at the hospital a short time later.

The Town of Clarksville and the Town Council said:

“It is with heavy hearts that we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of David "Red" Worrall, who passed away earlier this afternoon. A former member of the Clarksville Town Council and current At-Large candidate, David's dedication to our community was truly commendable. We will never forget his passion for public service and his unwavering desire to create positive change in our Town. David's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and the community he strived to serve.”

According to Worrall's bio on the Clarksville website, he was the owner of Worrall's Automotive and Machine Shop. He attended Clarksville High School and had been a resident of the town for 59 years. 

Bob McEwen and Jennifer Voignier won the Town of Clarksville at-large seats. Worrall came in third in Tuesday's voting.
