LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — David Yates won the primary race for Jefferson County clerk, defeating Rosalind "Roz" Welch in Tuesday’s election.

As of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Yates received 69%, compared to Welch's 31%.

The race marked the first election for the office since longtime Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw died in 2025 after serving nearly three decades in the position.

The clerk’s office oversees elections, vehicle registrations, marriage licenses and other county records services for Kentucky’s largest county.

Yates, who was appointed to temporarily lead the office following Holsclaw’s death, campaigned on his experience in local and state government. Welch highlighted her background as an election officer and focus on election administration.
