LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana Gov. Mike Braun delivered his first State of the State Address from the House Chamber at the statehouse Wednesday evening.
Braun outlined several of his priorities for the state, including fighting inflation and lowering property taxes.
He said Indiana has a chance right now to make huge progress.
"Now is the time to be bold and think out of the box, we can do it through big ideas, collaboration, and above all, action," Braun said.
Following the address, Indiana Democrats said action is exactly what they are calling for from the state's new governor.
"Speeches don't lower medical bills. Good intentions don't build homes. Promises don't pay teachers," Senate Minority Leader Shelli Yoder, D-Bloomington, said in a statement. "Governor Braun told Hoosiers what he wants Indiana to be—but where is the plan to get it done?"
In a statement of his own, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita praised Braun's address, and said he is putting Hoosiers first.
"Gov. Braun delivered a refreshing State of the State address by saying he wants to combat runaway property taxes, reduce healthcare costs, fight illegal immigration, eliminate DEI from state government, and keep parents in charge of their children's education," Rokita said.
Braun's address came a day after he signed an executive order directing all law enforcement agencies in Indiana to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
