LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced Monday that Rocky Adkins, who'd served as a senior adviser to the governor, served his last day with the administration July 10.

Adkins, a former Kentucky state representative from Elliott County, ran for governor in 2019 against Beshear and received the endorsement of former two-term governor Paul Patton, But Beshear beat Adkins in that primary race by six points.

"Rocky has been an invaluable part of Team Kentucky and our success, and I am grateful to him for his leadership and his friendship," Beshear said in a news release Monday. "Every day, Rocky shows up ready to serve the people of our commonwealth, and I know his commitment to public service will continue to drive him in this next chapter. I wish him, Leah and their family all the best."

Adkins served 32 years in the Kentucky House of Representatives, the latter part of which he spent as majority leader.

"It’s been a tremendous honor working with Gov. Beshear and his team through unprecedented challenges, while also celebrating historic economic investments and record-breaking new jobs at the highest wages in Kentucky history," Adkins said in a news release Monday. "I’ve committed my career to public service. From working at different levels in the legislature to now the executive branch, these experiences have helped me support families across our commonwealth, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished."

Beshear said Ray Perry will now step into that senior advisor role in his administration. Perry has held the role of deputy secretary of Beshear's executive cabinet since April.
