Louisville, Ky. (WDRB) -- One girl's old prom dress is another girl's treasure. Each year, Northeast Christian Church collects gently used prom dresses, shoes, and accessories. They go to underprivileged girls who wouldn't be able to afford prom.

On Saturday, Mall St. Matthews held a Prom Jam to collect items and host a fashion show displaying this year's styles.

A donor says it's much better to give dresses to a good cause instead of letting them collect dust.

"A lot of kids, high school seniors juniors, they can't afford to the prom, their parents are not working, the economy is bad, and it really uplifts them to be able to have something memorable time at their high school," said Valerie Camp, donated a dress.

People who donated items got gift cards to the mall in exchange.
