LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Â Louisville residents got the chance Thursday to tell officials how they should go about an overhaul of the Sherman Minton Bridge.
The 56-year-old bridge linking Louisville and New Albany is set for a $90 million makeover starting in 2021. Engineers say the Sherman Minton is deteriorating and needs major repairs.
Officials say they want to hear from the community as to whether they should take an approach that gets the job done more quickly or one that is more convenient for drivers but will take up to a year longer.
"Multiple options will be explored, everything from partial lane restrictions to full closure over a period of time, but not for an extended two-to-three-year period of time," said Andrea Brady, spokeswoman for the Sherman Minton Renewal.
AÂ similar event to Thursday's open house at the Chestnut Street YMCA was held Tuesday night in New Albany. KYTC and INDOT are expected to make a recommendation on a construction plan in about a year.
