LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Residents and neighbors of California Park attended a special Voices and Visions community meeting Saturday morning at the California Community Center.

Louisville Parks and Recreation took part in conversations about potential improvements for the park, including a new sprayground, repurposed tennis courts and other enhancements — all to make it feel more welcoming.

The goal is to find ways the part can better serve the community since the last time it was upgraded 20 years ago.

"We want this part to be a draw, a centerpiece for the community and not just an old amenity that's just worn out," Metro Councilman Ken Herndon said Saturday. "And, right now, it is a little rough around the edges, and we are beginning to work on the building itself but also the park, the lighting (and) security."

The leaders of Voices and Visions also plan on attending youth events to find out what they would like to see added or changed at the park.
