LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A project to rebuild West Liberty, Ky. following its devastation by tornadoes in 2012 is receiving national recognition.

The Clinton Global Initiative is scheduled to recognize the Rebuilding West Liberty project the week of June 10 in Chicago. The initiative is run by former President Bill Clinton.

Much of West Liberty's downtown was leveled by tornadoes on March 2, 2012.  The town was torn apart by an EF-3 tornado packing winds up to 135 miles an hour.  It was the hardest-hit area in Kentucky.

Morgan County Judge-Executive Tim Conley says the effort focuses on more than just rebuilding structures; it also includes creating a fiber optic system and a downtown Wi-Fi hub.
