LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A park in southwest Louisville has some new amenities ahead of spring time.
Riverview Park at 8202 Greenwood Road overlooks the Ohio River. The park is the home of the Riverview Independence Festival, which is held annually on the Saturday before the fourth of July.
The latest upgrades to the park include the installation of seven new picnic tables and the restoration of 11 others, the addition of six grills, six garbage cans, improved lighting near the splashpad and playground area, landscaping, additional benches and replacement of shade canopies.
Construction on four new pickleball courts will begin in April. The pickleball courts will have lighting and fencing.
"Whether you only visit the park once a year for the Riverview Independence Festival or are a frequent park user, there’s something new for you and your family to enjoy in the park," Louisville Metro Councilman Rick Blackwell, D-12, said in a news release.
Since 2010, Blackwell has invested in the park by expanding it to 87 acres, addressing deferred maintenance projects and adding new park amenities for community use like new bathrooms lighting improvements, Wi-Fi cameras for safety, new pavilions and more.
