LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke in Louisville on Monday, kicking off his presidential run as an Independent.
Kennedy was running as a Democrat until last week. Now, he said he doesn't want to be affiliated with either party.
Monday evening, he spoke at the Glenmary Country Club in southwest Jefferson County about the decline of home ownership because of skyrocketing home prices. He believes that's the root cause of a lot of the nation's problems.
"For my generation, the central promise of the American dream was that if you work hard, if you play by the rules you could finance a home, you could have a summer vacation, you could raise a family, you could put something aside for retirement," Kennedy said. "There's nobody in my kids' generation that believes that that promise applies to them."
Kennedy made headlines during COVID because of his opposition to the vaccine.
Since he launched his campaign as an independent, he's taken criticism from both Republicans and Democrats concerned he'll take away votes in the general election.
