LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Saturday morning's Great Balloon Race has been canceled because of weather.
The race, sponsored by L&N Federal Credit Union, was scheduled to take off at 7 a.m. from Bowman Field.
A spokesperson for the Kentucky Derby Festival said the forecasted high winds and unfavorable flying conditions expected Saturday morning prompted the cancellation.
It was the second hot-air balloon race as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival this year. The Great Balloon Rush Hour Race was held Friday morning. A Great Balloon Glow was also held Thursday night and Friday night, which was new this year.
The first Great Balloon race was held at Iroquois Park in 1973, with only seven balloons taking part.
