SELLERSBURG, Ind. (WDRB) -- Small businesses, boutiques, restaurants and more could soon be developed along a new stretch of road that just opened in Sellersburg.
Camp Run Parkway, right off of Highway 60, meets American Way at a roundabout which will connect Highway 60 and Highway 311. The road opened to drivers Saturday and features the new pavement, sidewalks, parking and the large roundabout at the turn. It's a $4.5 million project that's funded by a private donor.
Due to Sellersburg's lack of a main street area, the town created American Way with intentions of it becoming a town center district.
"We want a place where you can walk your dog, walk your kids (like) downtown Jeffersonville, where you have tables out on the sidewalk and you sit out there and have dinner," said Town Councilman Terry Langford, the town's redevelopment commission president. "That's what we're looking for."
Visions for the area include boutiques, shops, restaurants and other small businesses.
"A lot of people are going to try to think that this is going to be a cut through," Sellersburg Town Council President Brad Amos said in 2022. "It's not necessarily our desire. Our desires are for people who want to come in here and shop and work and enjoy their family times."
