LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Shepherdsville Police Department is warning the public about scam text messages impersonating the mayor's office.
According to a social media post, at least one resident received the text message that was titled "Shepherdsville Public Alert." The message then goes on to say that the notice is from Mayor Jose Cubero's office.
The message continues by saying police officers are searching for a suspect wanted for a murder on Pitts Point Road. It warns residents to stay indoors when possible and to make sure to carry identification when outdoors after midnight. It also said police would be conducting vehicle checks for residents in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The Shepherdsville Police Department addressed the fake text message on its Facebook page after a resident shared it on the All About Shepherdsville Facebook page.
In its follow-up post, Shepherdsville police said "we want to inform residents that this is 100% untrue and did not come from the City of Shepherdsville, Mayor Jose Cubero's Office or the Shepherdsville Police Department.
