LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana man was arrested in Columbus early Thursday morning following a SWAT stand-off.
Columbus Police Department officials saw Justin Morgan, 42, driving around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Officers recognized Morgan as a suspect in a recent firearm theft from a Columbus home.
According to a news release Thursday from CPD, Morgan parked his car in the 2700 block of California Court and refused to listen to officers on scene.
He then told officers he had a handgun.
CPD crisis negotiators and the bomb squad were called to the scene.
After attempting to communicate with Morgan for an extensive period of time, the bomb squad officers used a robot to break open the window of his vehicle and administered tear gas into the car.
Morgan was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for a medical exam and then to the Bartholomew County Jail.
He is being charged with possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a legend drug, and resisting law enforcement.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
