LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly abused a 4-year-old in her care.
The investigation began Wednesday after Indiana State Police received a report from the Indiana Department of Child Services that a 4-year-old child had been battered. The child showed up at school in Salem on Dec. 2 with bruising on both arms, which the school reported to the Department of Child Services.
Investigators determined the child was being cared for by 31-year-old April Dean, of Knightstown, at a residence in Salem from Nov. 28 through Dec. 1. That's when the alleged abuse is believed to have occurred.
A detective arrested Dean on Thursday evening after questioning her. She is now charged with domestic battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in injury. She is being held in the Washington County Jail.
ISP investigators encourage anyone who believes a child has been harmed or is in a potentially dangerous or harmful situation to report it to the Indiana Department of Child Services or a law enforcement agency as soon as possible.
