LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Transit Authority of River City (TARC) is working to improve its on-time performance over the next nine months.

The public transportation company announced a plan on Thursday, promising to provide more consistent communication to riders this month through text alerts.

TARC will also use bus operator trainers to cover short and/or peak-time only shifts.

"On time and reliable bus service are the most important priorities of our customers. That is why we are introducing new measures to further enhance the dependability of our service," TARC Executive Director Carrie Butler said in a news release.

In January, TARC said it will make more adjustments to reduce operator shifts that are consistently hard to fill.

In the summer and fall next year, officials said they will make larger-scale schedule adjustments to align with the driver pool. That's also when they expect to finish an upgrade of vehicle locator hardware.

TARC is also still recruiting new bus drivers and "will continue to do so in the foreseeable future." For information about open positions and to apply, click here.
