LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It has been a violent year in Metro Louisville and Mayor Greg Fischer is taking actions to stop some of the killing.

A shootout in broad daylight prompted the mayor to appoint a task force to look at the problem. This week, the group wrapped up its work.

25-year-old Lavel White is by far the youngest member of the group, but he and fellow task force members have something in common.

"We want this to stop in the city of Louisville and the state of Kentucky," White says.

In May of this year, a shooting in broad day light in the middle of a homicide investigation prompted Mayor Greg Fischer to create the task force. Unfortunately the violence hasn't stopped. There have been over 20 homicides in the city since that incident.

There were six committees and White was on the community rebuilding task force committee.

Mayor Fischer says the committees worked together well.

"Nobody was blaming anybody but everybody said how can I step up?" Fischer says.

White's group made several recommendations, including addressing vacant structures and more community involvement.

"Everybody has got to play a part in stopping the violence," White says.
