Joe Autry says the R value is the measure of the resistance of transfer of thermal heat. It's basically how well something prevents heat from traveling in. Insulation is used to keep the heat in your house.
There are two basic types of insulation, faced and unfaced. Faced insulation has paper on it that acts as a moisture barrier. Unfaced insulation is cheaper but is usually blown in.
Blowing in insulation can be dangerous if you don't wear a mask, but mostly it's just uncomfortable. No matter what kind of insulation you are dealing with, Autry says it's best to wear long sleeves and a pair of gloves to stop your skin from itching.
Scott Krueger showed our anchors how to blow in insulation. You need an insulation blowing machine. It usually takes about 10 bags of insulation to insulate an attic. Krueger says it is a two person job, but it's easy to do if you just follow the manufacturer's instructions.
