LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The family of U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Orin Dunham Jr. has peace of mind this holiday season thanks to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation paying off their Louisville home.
His widow, Sherrise Dunham, said she cried when she learned the news.
“It is a blessing to have people who have never met me, my kids or our fallen hero step in and handle such a huge bill,” she said.
Dunham died July 11, 2020, from a heart attack linked to service-connected hypertensive cardiovascular disease. He served in the Army for 26 years, earning multiple medals including the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medals.
He is survived by his wife, their children Dominique and Denzel, and his stepson, Bryan.
The mortgage payoff is part of the foundation’s annual Season of Hope, which delivers mortgage-free homes to military and first responder families during the holiday season.
