LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Uber is cracking down on riders who don't wear masks.

The San Francisco-based company is now enforcing a policy unveiled in early September stipulating that if a driver reports to Uber that their rider wasn’t wearing a mask, the rider will have to provide Uber with a selfie with one strapped on before they can use the service again.

Uber announced in May that all riders, drivers and delivery people are required to wear face coverings during trips. Drivers and delivery people have been required to take selfies wearing masks since that policy took effect. Now the company is enforcing the same rules for its customers.

"When we say 'No Mask. No Ride.' we mean it," a news release states. More than 1,200 riders have been banned from using the app after Uber received multiple reports from drivers that masks weren't being worn. Users who continue to violate the policy will continue to risk losing access to the app.
