LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Jill Ellis will be at a U of L women’s soccer game this year, according to the university.
She is slated to be at the Cardinals’ game against Washington at 1 p.m. Aug. 23 at Lynn Stadium.
"We are thrilled to have our US Women's National Team World Champion Head Coach Jill Ellis in town for our game on Aug. 23," said UofL head coach Karen Ferguson Dayes.
The new soccer stadium saw the highest average attendance in the NCAA for men’s games last season, and women’s soccer has seen an explosion in popularity since this year’s World Cup.
Ellis led the U.S. Women’s National Team to their first World Cup victory since 1999 this summer. She also led UCLA to eight NCAA Final Fours, including seven in a row from 2003-2009, and won six straight Pacific-12 Conference titles from 2003-2008.
"The World Cup games captured the hearts and attention of many, and we want to pay tribute to her because of the impact they have made not only in our city but across the world,” Coach Dayes said.
Ellis will also make an appearance at the post-game clinic.
