LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Wayside Christian Mission is putting the finishing touches on its annual Thanksgiving Day gala — a daylong celebration designed to feed, support and uplift people experiencing homelessness.
Staff spent Wednesday prepping a kitchen full of ingredients that will carry the mission through a packed house on Thursday.
The day begins with a hot breakfast featuring pancakes, eggs and other morning favorites. From midday through the evening, guests are served a full Thanksgiving feast with all the traditional dishes.
Guests can enjoy live music, pick up a warm coat for winter and stop by a toy wagon filled with gifts for children. Door prizes will also be handed out throughout the day.
Chief Operating Officer Nina Moseley said the volunteers — many of whom return year after year — are key to creating a welcoming holiday atmosphere.
"We want this to feel like being at grandma’s house," Moseley said. "Loving people are serving you, making sure you’re comfortable, and getting you whatever you need. That’s what makes this day so special."
