LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Wayside Christian Mission's licensing has been restored after a recent lapse.

Each year, shelters must renew their licensing. In September of 2023, Wayside was denied a license when trying to renew. That means the shelter had been operating without a license for more than a year.

Chief Operating Officer Nina Moseley said when the inspector from the codes department came, he went to the wrong building.

Moseley was told to get someone to come back for another inspection, but she'd have to re-file the application and submit another $150 fee.

She protested having to pay the fee again, but by the time all of that transpired, the months had rolled into November and she was busy with Wayside's holiday events, White Flag season, and major renovations going on at the building. Ultimately, the renewal fell through the cracks.

Moseley said Wayside Christian Mission has had multiple other inspections since 2023 and she has all the documentation to prove it.

A new application for a license was submitted in mid-January and the Department of Codes and Regulations issued the new license on Thursday.

The city's White Flag shelters have been staying busy with the recent snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. In extreme cold or heat, Operation White Flag goes into effect. During a wind chill of below 35 degrees or a heat index over 95 degree, shelters will fly a white flag outside, allowing people to remain inside as long as the flag is flying.
