LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Around Halloween, you never know where the day is going to take you. Friday took WDRB News to Mister G's Car Wash on Grant Line Road in New Albany, where high schoolers were scaring customers to raise money for their soccer teams.
The enthusiasm quickly waned as WDRB watched dirty cars carrying unsuspecting victims creep up to the line. Behind the masks, were New Albany High School soccer players, parents and coaches.
"We actually take proceeds, $5 for each car, goes to each team and the entire next season is mostly paid for by doing this fundraiser," said Rachel Wells, girls' soccer coach at New Albany.
Even when you pay the fee, they show no mercy as they bang on your car but the troubles are only just beginning.
"Can we just get to the car wash? Can we just get into the car wash!" Gracyne shouted as she entered the line.
Finally, a break from the monsters, Freddy Krueger and Jason, and you get what you pulled in for: A freshly washed car.
A few moments of peace as WDRB News headed back across the river to Louisville's Crescent Hill neighborhood for Halloween on Hillcrest.
There aren't jump scares, just homes and lawns covered with gravestones, skeletons and spiders.
"Really, really beautiful, the Halloween decorations and stuff like that. Everybody is doing a really good job so far," said Fares Mahren, who took his family down Hillcrest on Friday.
Mahren was showing his family from Egypt how Louisville does Halloween.
"It's different, but it's beautiful," he said. "They like scary movies."
From Harry Potter, the Wizard of Oz, Chucky and Albert Einstein, all represented on Hillcrest.
But back at the car wash, the lights fade to red as the jets turn on. When the exit approaches and masked tormentors await, it's important to remember that every dollar raised helps athletes afford gear.
"And makes sure any kid that wants to play can play," said Wells.
Just don't let your guard down until you pull completely out of the driveway.
The New Albany students will be back out at Mister G's on Saturday from 6-10 p.m., continuing to raise money for their soccer teams.
