LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The cold, wet and windy weather didn't stop Thunder Over Louisville from happening, but there were delays.

Organizers paused the air show a couple of times Saturday afternoon due to the rain and wind. Weather moving into the area around 9 p.m. caused a 10-minute delay in the fireworks show.

White caps along the Ohio River and people covered with blankets tells you how the wind welcomed the crowd to the riverfront.

"It is very cold, the wind has brought it down," one event goer said.

The weather forecast for Saturday was going to be a challenge for the show that returned after being cancelled last year due to the area's historic flooding.

For some like Amber Castro, the weather proved a little too much for her and her family.

"It is too cold and too windy," Castro said.

Her and her family had planned to spend the entire day along the river, but just after three hours, she had seen enough.

"We are cold and we have two kids," Castro said.

Finding a place to sit wasn't an issue and getting through the line at one of the food vendor was no trouble. For one food vendor, Hoosier Burger, the crowd was a welcome sight for its first Thunder.

"I looked it up, and it said almost 500,000 (people)," a Hoosier Burger employee said.

Rainy conditions on and off Saturday around 5 p.m. forced some to the exits, but some stuck it out.

"I'm not miserable, I mean I'm out here for the air show and Thunder Over Louisville, I mean it only happens once a year right," an attendee said.

Some in the crowd, Thunder veterans, were prepared and had extra jackets and even used an umbrella to break the wind to see one of the country's largest firework shows.
