LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman died Friday morning after being hit by multiple vehicles on Interstate 65 North at Outer Loop.

Louisville Metro Police officers responded around 11:40 a.m. to find a woman lying in the road beneath the Outer Loop overpass. Spokesperson Aaron Ellis said she was hit by multiple vehicles.

A white sheet was seen covering the woman just north of the overpass. Ellis said EMS pronounced her dead at the scene, and detectives are working to "learn the sequence of events that may have led up to her death."

All northbound lanes were blocked for several hours, and traffic backed up onto Interstate 265. LMPD said the road reopened around 2 p.m.
