LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Zoneton Fire Department wants to reduce response time by starting its own ambulance service.
Chief Kevin Moulton said in an open letter posted on Facebook the department plans to start the new service in the next few months, aiming to provide a higher level of patient care and better serve residents and businesses.
"We believe that integrating EMS within the fire department will result in faster response times, more seamless coordination during emergencies, and great accountability—all while keeping services local and community-focused," Moulton said in the letter.
Moulton said they still plan to work closely with Bullitt County EMS for mutual aid.
But this new service means a new EMS tax. Moulton said the proposed rate will be determined based on projected costs, staffing, equipment and service needs but won't be more than 10 cents per $100 of assessed value of property.
For example, a $250,000 home's ambulance tax would be $250.
