Scenes from the sideline during Louisville's 73-68 loss at Virginia.
Got any more bright ideas?
Updated
Really liked this shot, with Mack giving one of those glances to his staff.

The basic Louisville sideline shotÂ

If you watch Mack much, you see this call pretty often during games.
Eric Crawford photo.Checking notes
Updated
Not sure what Make keeps in his notes on opponents, but it strikes me as a sensible thing to have some things on paper heading into a game.
Eric Crawford photo.Back and forth
Updated
Timeouts aren't just coaches talking. Players do a lot of talking with each other in the brief time Mack and his assistants are conferring before joining the huddle. The back and forth in the huddle is important. Here, Jordan Nwora makes a point.
Eric Crawford photo. What's going on over there?
Updated
A curious lean in the direction of the opposing bench.
Eric Crawford photo."I don't know what to do with my hands."
Updated
Just one of those quirky moments. I don't know if this was a case of Mack looking at something or just a quick stop of a broader motion. Will have to ask him sometimes. I only used the shot because I wanted to include the line from "Talladega Nights"

A lot of coaching is just getting guys into the right places. Just thought this gave a good view of Mack and the bench.
Eric Crawford photo.Clipboard work
Updated
Mack does a lot of work with the clipboard, drawing up plays in the huddle. Most coaches use the board, some more than others.
Eric Crawford photo.The chart
Updated
Not sure what's being charted here but was caught by the attention to detail -- Virginia's logo on the chart.
Eric Crawford photo.In the huddle
Updated
Dwayne Sutton plays as hard as anyone. Here he catches a breath after hitting the stool in the huddle.
Eric Crawford photo.Just look at this
Updated
Not certain if Mack was trying to get the referee to look somewhere or position a player for an out-of-bounds play.Â
Eric Crawford photo.Leaning in
Updated
When the coach steps out of his box, everybody has to adjust if they want to see the play.
Eric Crawford photo.LIghter moment
Updated
Mack chuckles as he makes a point to his assistants.
Eric Crawford photo.Mack at work
Updated
Louisville's Chris Mack said his team embraces its preseason expectations, but added, "We haven't done squat yet. It's all on paper."
Eric Crawford photoMack's eye view
Updated
You see more or less what the coach is seeing, from a much lower angle of course.Â
Eric Crawford photo.Settle down
Updated
This was a key moment, when Virginia was making a run midway through the second half. Mack was telling his players to calm down and execute, not to panic just because the Cavaliers had made a few plays. Louisville didn't win the game, but it did keep its composure down the stretch better than it has -- if not perfectly.

Another shot of McMahon reacting on the bench.
Eric Crawford photo.Shadow coaching 2
Updated
The bench was pretty engaged with the game, but Ryan McMahon takes it another level. Perhaps there is coaching in his future.
Eric Crawford photo.Team huddle
Updated
This huddle came late in the game, right after a timeout. The players gathered for a few private words between them.
Eric Crawford photo. That can't be good
Updated
One of those moments. This came after a foul called on Louisville's Dwayne Sutton with Louisville leading 62-61 and just over eight minutes to play.
Eric Crawford photo.The Assistants
Updated
Thought this was a decent shot of Louisville assistant coaches Luke Murray, Dino Gaudio and Mike Pegues.
Eric Crawford photo.The cut man
Updated
Christen Cunningham has a cut attended to during a timeout huddle. Team trainer Fred Hina is off camera applying the pressure.
Game over
Updated
Lest you think players don't take losing hard, this example of Christen Cunningham says otherwise.
