I was thinking about all the chaos in the world right now, from the UnitedHealthcare CEO who was assassinated in New York to the Syrian rebels finally overthrowing one of the worst humans to ever walk the planet — now-former president Bashar al Assad. I was thinking about scammers who are feasting on the gullible public again this holiday season and the Chinese government that steals intellectual property without honor and without a conscience.
With all the bad actors out there, it might be easy to forget about how wonderful this world is too.
I think about Rev. Sutton, at the West Chestnut Street Baptist Church, who passes out hams and Turkeys at Thanksgiving to those who need them. I think of JCPS'Â Clothing Assistance Program, helping 250 families in need this season who were able to pick out donated jackets and toys because a lot of fortunate people gave to help the less fortunate.
How about Louisville's Portland neighborhood looking a little greener thanks to Louisville Grows providing 100 free trees and then planting them. Or Light Up Louisville bringing families downtown for a free and festive parade. Or the Bardstown Road Aglow Christmas tradition bringing tens of thousands of people for shopping, lights, deals and good cheer.
I think of wonderful shows we have access to like the Louisville Ballet's Nutcracker, the Orchestra's Holiday program and musicals from the Broadway Series.
I think about the renewed energy U of L men's basketball is bringing back to the Yum! Center and how that will positively affect the businesses in the area.
We have so many uplifting things going on. They may not always get our attention like the bad stuff does, but, keeping everything in perspective, how lucky are we to live in or near Louisville, Kentucky?
Call us with your good stuff, and we'll share it.
I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
