One evening, a couple weeks ago, a groups of teenagers and young adults started fighting down at the Big Four Bridge. The scary thing is that it wasn't the first time and it won't be the last.
Too many parents are not parenting. When it's 10:00, and they can't answer the basic question "Do you know where your children are?" it's shameful and possibly criminal. Parents need to know where their kids are, who they are with and what they're doing.
If parents aren't willing to do basic parenting like that, then I think the city should hold the parents criminally responsible when their children behave violently.
Here's what our viewers had to say:
"Couldn't agree with you more, Bill. You said it perfect."
"Hold the parents responsible when their young kids are out doing damage to a lot of things and people."
"Why doesn't the city just impose a curfew — let's say 10 o'clock — during the summer hours? They're not home ?Parents are responsible."
"Our government needs to stand up. If it's military school, if it's jail, if it's fines, whatever it needs to be, it needs to happen. Because it's going to get worse before it gets better."
"You're kidding, aren't you, Bill? Because most of those kids come from single-parent households, and the single parent is out working two and three jobs trying to make ends meet. You're going to prosecute them?"
