One evening a couple of weeks ago, a group of teenagers and young adults started fighting on the Big Four Bridge. The scary thing is that it wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last. Summer is coming, and some younger people, when they are out unsupervised, become disruptive or worse.
This dangerous behavior impacts families and visitors simply trying to enjoy a night out.
There are too many parents who could be parenting, should be parenting and simply are not. When it's 10:00, and they can't answer the basic question, "Do you know where your children are?" it's shameful and possibly criminal.
The best quote of last summer came from Police Chief Paul Humphrey, who said "You hear it all the time. 'Oh, they just got caught up in the wrong crowd.' No, your kid IS the wrong crowd."
Parents need to know where their kids are, who they are with and what they're doing to ensure their behavior doesn't put themselves or others at risk. If they won't be responsible for basic parenting like that, then the city should find a way to hold the parents criminally responsible for their children's violent behavior.
What do you think about that? Too much, or is it about time? Call us and let us know.
