President Trump had a conversation with Vladimir Putin to find a resolution to the Ukraine war starting with a ceasefire. I hope he will ultimately be successful but I have serious doubts. There are just too many questions.

If Trump is somehow able to get Putin to agree to end the war, will Putin ever be held accountable for his war crimes or will that just be forgiven? Will Russia be allowed to keep the land they have taken from Ukraine as part of the negotiation?

What do we know about Vladimir Putin? We know he is a liar. We know he is a criminal. We know he sanctioned the kidnapping of Ukrainian children. We know his word is worthless. We know he is a murderer. You and I would be more concerned about stepping on an ant than Putin is about murdering human beings. So where do you start negotiating with a person like that?

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is having difficulty trusting anything Putin will say or agree to do. I get it. President Trump is treating Putin like a respectable world leader rather than a terrorist who, without apology, just shrugged when his forces shot down a Malaysian Airlines flight in 2014.

I suspect there will be no peace in Ukraine until Vladimir Putin is no longer allowed to terrorize the civilized world.
